Literature Text
Today I must take up arms
My weapons have begun to grow dusty
I must defend our dreams from harm
Though my memory of them is rusty
The moon is an eyeball, blank and cold
A lamp in the shuttering sky
She watches me undo myself
Unmoving, as I prepare to die
And I've lost my voice so long ago
I no longer know how it feels
To speak a thought that's solely mine
Nor a word I did not steal
What god of man am I fighting for?
What idea, what master have I?
I know not what I'm fighting for
Only that I'm prepared to die
I have no future but this fire
This mindless beast inside me
A cruel fate which reflects my own:
It kills but cannot think.
My weapons have begun to grow dusty
I must defend our dreams from harm
Though my memory of them is rusty
The moon is an eyeball, blank and cold
A lamp in the shuttering sky
She watches me undo myself
Unmoving, as I prepare to die
And I've lost my voice so long ago
I no longer know how it feels
To speak a thought that's solely mine
Nor a word I did not steal
What god of man am I fighting for?
What idea, what master have I?
I know not what I'm fighting for
Only that I'm prepared to die
I have no future but this fire
This mindless beast inside me
A cruel fate which reflects my own:
It kills but cannot think.

Are you familiar with Rage against the Machine? This poem reminds me a lot of their music thematically.
